Macro Principles
About
Welcome! My name is Julien Le Nestour and I’m the IT Innovation Manager at Schlumberger, large Oil and Gas services company.
What do I do: find and bring innovative IT technologies inside SLB to create a significant and sustainable competitive advantage. The job is 1/3 Analyst (monitoring, market analysis, deep analysis, intelligence gathering), 1/3 VC (analyze what initiatives to fund, what priorities, where’s the business value, etc.), 1/3 Consultant (as in consult, advise, manage projects to actually get stuff done). Yes, diverse and challenging, but insanely great. Want to know how I see my job ? That’s here.
Passionate about?: I’m passionate about increase the performance and efficiency of organizations, and I’ve found that among all the levers that could be used, the IT lever is the most powerful one. Hence my move in IT. Passionate about investing and managing our (with my partner) investments. Passionate about analytical activities and understanding the world globally, the stuff I call Macro-Principles.
Where do I come from ?: Studied at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de la rue d’Ulm and Sciences-Po, both in Paris. Subjects: economics, behavioral sciences, management, and several other topics like neurosciences, exp. psychology, etc.. I spent 1 year in Houston (but traveling extensively) and 3 years in London (also traveling) with SLB before moving back to Paris in June 08 (not planning to settle in France long-term though, more like another step…).
Macro Principles (MP) are, essentially, trends that arise globally and deeply shape our world (hence Macro). I am using the word “Principles” because I am focusing on understanding the dynamics of those trends, not merely identifying them. If not, the pace of change would be overwhelming. I’m focusing on MP on this blog but also in my everyday analyses, because these are principles that are impacting every domain and that I can re-use across all activities: develop new IT tools, investing, management, etc.
Comments ? Sure! I will always be grateful for any comments, reactions, criticism, any feelings you might have towards this, so please use the comments on this blog or contact me at julien [at] macroprinciples [dot] com.
Usual disclaimer: of course, all the content and opinions expressed on this blog are mine and only mine, not at all those of my past, present or future employers. Nothing in this blog should be taken as professional advice about anything, yada, yada, yada… Important disclaimer: I don’t post about SLB projects, nor I necessarily censor myself in case we have an initiative related under way, if there is no competitive issues. So please do not try to interpret what I’m posting here to deduct what SLB as a company is doing: you would be wasting your time (but hey, if you want ;-) …
