Spontaneous Activity: what type are you ?
Over the years I have had two neighbors who exhibited two behaviors. Both of these neighbors had, to me, the curious practice of stopping in their cars to empty their mailboxes. They would drive home from work, stop their cars at their mailboxes, empty them and drive into their garages. Strange, because their mailboxes were only a short distance from their doors. In addition, I would almost never see these neighbors outside playing with their dogs or children or walking in the neighborhood. What else do you think these neighbors shared in common? They gained weight steadily during the years I watched them, one over the course of 6 years and the other over the course of about 4 year
I tend to do the exact reversal:
maximize the amount of spontaneous activity I get from other activities. This is my way of getting my intake of physical activity despite less and less time.
So when I have the choice between transportation of some sort and walking, I usually walk if the additional time is not more than 10 mins. I carry a briefcase instead of a backpack because the briefcase allows me to exercise my arms and abs while walking. I lift the briefcase when I walk, instead of just letting it hang at the end of my arm, because if I’m gonna walk a fair amount of time each day (I’m in London, it’s underground + walk for an hour every day), then I want to at least benefit from the little exercise I can get. By now, you get the idea ;-)
